Birth Doulas
A birth doula is a trained professional who offers physical and emotional support to birthing parents during pregnancy, labor, and childbirth. A labor doula’s role is to nurture and help guide the birthing person and their partner so they feel informed, confident, and supported throughout the birth experience.

Doula services are a covered insurance benefit in California for individuals who are pregnant or have recently been pregnant, as of January 2023.

Covered services may include:
- Often, one initial visit
- Up to 8 prenatal and postpartum visits
- Support during labor and delivery, including care during stillbirth, miscarriage, or medical abortion
- Up to 2 additional postpartum visits
These services are usually available for individuals and their families throughout pregnancy and up to one year postpartum.
